The Organization of Jews in Bulgaria Shalom marked in Sofia the European Day of Jewish Culture in a wish to promote and help preserve their heritage. The celebration's agenda included a presentation of the European roads of the Jewish cultural and historical heritage, two photo exhibitions and a concert. The day was launched in 1996 in the Bas-Rhin (Alsace/France) under the Open Day formula by the Jewish association B'nai B'rith Hirschler in Strasbourg. The Day was progressively extended and became a truly trans-European event in 2000.
